Comments from previous employers:
E ON U.S.
- Paul Weis
Intern: Ira Baca
“Ira was the best summer
intern that I had ever employed. Her
work attitude and aptitude was amazing.
She was a very focused individual and liked to challenge herself… At certain
points of projects we were waiting on other departments and it was difficult to
keep her busy... It was rewarding to spend time with Ira. She was a very enjoyable person. She was very impressed with the openness and
hospitality of Kentuckians… We are going to stay in touch with Ira Baci. Our CEO was very impressed with her. She will submit her resume to me and I am
going to forward it on to him.”
Bridgehaven – Angela Rogers
Intern: Liz Dunn
“We have never been
disappointed in the intern we have been given.
This is our 5th year of hosting a bulldog. They have all been very positive in their
approaches, outgoing, and motivated to learn as much about mental illness as
they can. Most always they are very
willing to jump in and tackle challenging tasks. It has always been a positive experience for
us… She was able to bond with some
of our clients and they were very sad to see her go.”
IMC Licensing
– Kim Steadman
Inter: Rosanna Smith
“Rosanna is very talented
and contributed to the successful outcome of some of our projects...we had a
special project for General Mills on the Wheaties brand. Rosanna contributed a great deal on this
project utilizing her artistic abilities…It is a very rewarding program since
you have the ability to help mold a student in the training of the real work
environment.”
National Center for Family Literacy – Stacey Langan
Intern: Emily Stevens
“I
thought the activities that you offered to the Bulldogs on the weekends were
great. They were able to experience things that some Kentucky natives have yet to
experience. I know that most of them
focused on the outdoors…Emily was usually eager to complete any task that was
sent her way. She was very flexible in
meeting the demands and array of work within our team. I was able to give her multiple tasks that
required different techniques. She was
very inquisitive about our organization’s work and enjoyed learning about the
research…I truly enjoyed speaking with Emily about her future and her career
choices. My age was advantageous in relating to her. I also think that I learned different people
skills during this experience.”
Humana Foundation – Virginia Judd
Intern: Courtney Long
“Courtney did a wonderful
job this summer and was very involved in the Foundation’s new Wellness
Information Zone and Humana Volunteerism projects. She was enthusiastic and focused. She also
volunteered with Kentucky Refugee Ministries... We have participated in the
Bulldogs program since the beginning and believe that it is making a positive
and tangible impact in the lives of the participants.”
The C.E. & S. Foundation – Diana Church
Intern: Steve Kryger
“The breadth of activities
provides exciting opportunities for Bulldogs to engage with community leaders
and learn about the Kentuckiana region. Steven
had only positive things to say about the scheduled activities. He even took the initiative to email the
Mayor with additional questions regarding the city’s “green policies” – and was
pleased that the Mayor took the time to respond… We are very pleased with
Steven’s performance. He
enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to learn everything he could about
philanthropy and the nonprofit sector. While
Steven has not yet settled on a career path, his interests in law and social
justice emerged early in the internship.
When the Supreme Court decision regarding racially-based student
enrollment in Jefferson County Public Schools was announced, Steven’s careful
reading and close analysis of the Justices’ opinions provided a level of
insight into the core issues that we have found invaluable… The most
challenging part of being a Bulldog supervisor remains learning to gauge how
much work to give our intern without either boring him with necessary but
mundane tasks, or overwhelming him with too much information in too short an
amount of time. Much of our work takes
place in front of a computer, at a desk, inside the office, and this summer we
were pleased to offer a joint internship with the Blackacre Conservancy. The joint internship successfully exposed our
intern to a variety of organization types and management and governance issues
found within the nonprofit sector, but presented some challenges in day-to-day
time and workflow management.”
National Safe
Place – Susan Harmon
Intern: Nathan Mejias
“Nate was a pleasure to have
around this summer. He immediately
jumped in as an addition to our staff and was quite helpful. Some of the adjectives that describe Nate
are: calm, pleasant, thoughtful, courteous, and insightful. He was fun-loving and well-rounded, being
able to join in and relate to everything that we needed and wanted to do as a
staff. He also took initiative and
worked until his tasks were completed.
He offered ideas and suggestions which we allowed him to implement. We have thoroughly enjoyed having the
opportunity to employ and get to know Yale students over the past several
summers…It is a pleasure to keep up with them as they have continued their
education and started their careers.
They have provided us with quality work and refreshing energy…We are
just so fortunate to have had the great young people come to be with us here at
National Safe Place. Even tomorrow we will get to see Chris Young,
our 2006 Bulldog. We really have
developed good relationships with these Bulldogs and miss them when they leave
us.”
Brooklawn - Kate Jones
Intern: Angela Parker
“Angela did an excellent
job. She entered our workforce and was
willing to do any job she was asked to do.
Of course, many new employees go through a shock with the reality of our
youth served, but Angela did not hesitate to ask questions and to get to know
the job that we do each day…This has been a great opportunity for our company
to provide support to existing staff, as well as share an experience and
potentially influence the path that Bulldog interns take in their education and
career.”
Visually Impaired Preschool Services – Sharon
Bensinger
Intern: Bradley Milam
“Brad is a great young man,
smart, responsible, with a great work ethic…Brad took responsibility for various
aspects of the major fundraising event that we held toward the end of his time
here. He was always positive about his
work, any requests that we made of him, and his suggestions for changes and
improvements were always right on!... Do not hesitate to give them big
challenges and responsibilities – they are up for it and they thrive on it!...
This is a great opportunity for a non profit agency to get bright and talented
intern at a very reasonable salary for the entire summer. This is the third Bulldog that we have had at
VIPS and each one did an outstanding job for the agency during their 10 week
stay. They all were individual that I
would want to hire fulltime. Do not hesitate to challenge your Bulldog intern
and give them significant responsibilities during their summer with your
company – they are up for it and they thrive on it!”
